  1. Writing this review on August 1st 2024 – I’ll admit I was slightly nervous when I booked, as I always read the reviews on Google Maps before booking any place. I’m a loyal Marriott customer (Titanium level), and dome of the reviews I read led me to believe that this hotel wasn’t up to par.
Yes there’s a construction site right next door (a new 7 or 8 story hotel). It will partially obstruct some lower level rooms facing East. We were able to negotiate with the front desk to face West, and the noise of the construction site wasn’t noticeable at all. We drove and walked around the property many times over the course of the week we stayed here, and the disturbance is honestly marginal.

I also read very negative reviews about the jacuzzi. The only thing I can say is that it was clean and operational.

I read some negative reviews about housekeeping, not our experience. They even left a note under the door the one day I had to have a conference call and had the Do Not Disturb sign on the door. Later in the day I asked for fresh towels and they brought them.

Because of all these recent negative reviews I first booked 3 days, but subsequently extended for additional nights.

Some people complained it is expensive, well, I’m learning that EVERYTHING is expensive in Mammoth 🙁

Not your conventional Westin, as rooms have a kitchenette, and it turned out very convenient, as the restaurant options are somehow limited in town (IMO)

  2. The cleanliness standards and service have decreased significantly. They replaced all pillows at the hotels with some cheap and lumpy ones. We had really hard time sleeping. I asked to replace my set with a newer one, but I had to follow up on my request two more times during the day. Moreover, our bed comforter had a stain prior our arrival, we left a note for the cleaning personnel to replace it, but they didn’t care about the note, we ended up with the same comforter. Also, the restaurant downstairs, even though with good food, had really dirty tables. One hot tub was closed and another didn’t have working jets. Yet, they charged us ~$450 per night. Not really the service of a 4 star hotel, what a shame!!!

  3. Would have given negative if possible. Due to a family emergency (someone being hospitalized back home), we had to cancel our trip last moment. We called them to check if they could help cancel or move the dates. They agreed to move the dates (all through 3rd party). but would not be able to refund anything (not even the second night). We checked dates till next 6 months, but no matter what date option we provided they said they have no availability for the said room type. However, I could see online that they have available rooms for all the dates. If you do not want to change the dates, then just say that upfront rather than harassing someone who is already going through difficulty at home. Disgusting! I was really looking forward to staying here, but will never ever book here.

  4. Could have been great, room was nice and clean. Why only 2 stars?

Main reason for us to book this hotel was the hot tub and having a great view.
They have a big construction site we were informed about on the day before check in via email and the hot tub was not working the whole time and was filthy.

Of course, We are still fully charged including resort fee..

  5. Absolutely loved my stay at The Westin Monache Resort in Mammoth Lakes! The staff was incredibly friendly and diverse, making us feel welcome from the moment we arrived (greeted with a cold, bubbly glass of wine). The location is perfect for exploring the area, and the rooms were clean, quiet, and exceptionally comfortable. We enjoyed several meals at the on-site restaurant, Whitebark, and the food was consistently delicious. I highly recommend staying here whenever you visit Mammoth. It truly made our trip memorable!
