I would give 3.5 stars. As the general hotel star rating goes, this is more 4 than 5 stars. Staff was very helpful and kind. The room was fine, but pillows were not great, and there were some holes in both bottom and top sheets. The toilet was loose and moved when sitting on it. We figured that the location of the hotel would be great for exploring the city a bit, but the direct vicinity of the hotel felt a little “rough”. A nearby Mexican restaurant was suggested to us as a great choice, but we left before ordering a meal as it felt more like a nightclub than restaurant. We ended up eating at the hotel restaurant, “The Grant Grill”. See review elsewhere.
We had a wonderful stay at this beautiful hotel, which is in a great location. We could do without some of the homelessness around the downtown area, but the hotel maintains its elegance in its close surroundings. The room and bathroom were both spacious.
I would like to give a huge shout out to Robert (head of valet) and Jerry (head of security) for their utmost professionlism and courtesy during my time of need. They followed through and made sure that everything was in order. They are top notch individuals.
Robert has such integrity and deserves all the accolades. The US Grant Hotel is lucky to have him since he is definitely a major ASSET to the hotel.
The US Grand Hotel in San Diego offers a pleasant and comfortable stay. The room was cozy and clean, with a spacious layout that includes plenty of charging points beside the beds—an excellent feature for today’s tech-savvy travelers.
The staff at the reception and restaurant were highly professional, although their manner could sometimes come across as a bit “cold” in terms of tone and expression. In contrast, the bellboys were exceptional—friendly, enthusiastic, and always ready to help with luggage and greet guests with a smile. Thumbs up to them!
One downside was the breakfast experience. We were told to wait for 10 minutes before being seated, and guests arriving after us had to wait even longer—15, 20, and 25 minutes. This was surprising since the restaurant was only half full, as evident in the pic and from the many empty tables. This inefficiency, especially for a breakfast that is chargeable and not complimentary, was disappointing. I hope hotel management can try to addresses this issue.
Although the waitstaff were nice and served us well, they need to be more attentive to the receipts (I was given the wrong receipt during billing), especially when charging is required. This small improvement would enhance the overall dining experience.
Despite these issues, the restaurant’s waitstaff were attentive and provided excellent service. Thank you for making the dining experience pleasant.
Overall, the US Grand Hotel provides a comfortable stay with room for improvement in certain areas.
The customer service at the Grant was impeccable, more than one can ask for at what I consider to be an affordable price. I stayed in room 604 which is located right beside the elevator. 24 hours a day you hear the elevator going up & down. I would recommend avoiding room 604 for this reason. It’s only a guess as to why I got this room, but I was there very early before their usual check-in time and I have to believe it is because they rent out this room last due to noise. Wonderful bed, furnishings, water, coffee, etc. Oh yeah, water pressure in the shower was almost non-existent. Beautiful shower and soft towels and robes, but low pressure.
So far, this hotel is beautiful and the staff is absolutely wonderful. The rooms hold an old building charm, but updated for the times. Love all the amenities in the room, and I am chuffed to be here
