Shiva Yoga – Fitness in California

Shiva Yoga is a comprehensive and dynamic spiritual regimen rooted in Hindu philosophy, predominantly associated with Lord Shiva, known as Nataraja, the cosmic dancer. This yoga practice combines physical postures (asanas), breath control (pranayama), meditation, and spiritual insights to harmonize the body, mind, and spirit.

It emphasizes experiencising the four states (Chitta Vrittis)—understanding them, purifying them through self-inquiry, experiencing them in their true essence, and surrendering to them. Acknowledging Shiva as the transcendent consciousness, practitioners aim to dissolve the ego and identify with the universal principle of existence.

Through an integrative approach, Shiva Yoga facilitates introspection, mindfulness, and the pursuit of self-realization, ultimately seeking oneness with the cosmic self. The practice supports self-cultivation, inner peace, and the liberation (Moksha) from the cyclical nature of life and death.

100 words summary: Shiva Yoga is a spiritual practice connecting physical postures, breath control, and meditation to harmonize body and mind. With roots in Hinduism centered on Lord Shiva, it focuses on self-realization and dissolving the ego, encouraging practitioners to experience unity with universal consciousness, fostering inner peace and freedom from life’s cycles.

  1. I love this studio! It truly feels so serene and welcoming as soon as you walk in. I had never done yoga before so was hesitant about my first class, but the teacher (Nich) did a great job and made it easy to follow along. I truly loved the class and feel like I just uncovered something wonderful! So glad I pushed myself to try something new. Overall, amazing teachers and restorative classes. Plus it instantly feels like a little community, which can be hard to find. So happy to now be a part of the Shiva Yoga family!

  2. Garth is such a great teacher! Reminded me of my yoga classes in India. There’s a strong emphasis on breath and his instructions were super easy to follow. Definitely coming back!

Parking can be a little tricky unless you catch one of their few reserved spots across the street.

  3. The best studio I’ve found in Los Angeles. Plenty of parking and a great energy. The space has nice high ceilings with plenty of sunlight. Elias lead the class with a calm confidence. His suggested adjustments never interfered with my flow. I wholeheartedly reccomend Shiva.

  4. The place is very clean, gorgeous, & well ventilated. Everything you’d want aesthetically from a studio.

It is not however the place for beginners/rookies. I realized pretty early during my trial membership that I’d have to ‘work my way up there’ which is ultimately why I decided to not return. Wish they could offer a very rudimentary beginners course at a considerate price! It would bring a lot more people like me who have previous yoga experience but have lost their footing in recent years. Despite this, the owner, Garth, was really nice and understanding. Great customer service & great vibe overall! Some of the instructors were kind. Some were excited to show off for “industry” clients. Kinda depends on who you sign up for, which is expected at any studio.

Overall: It’s geared for yogis, fitness people, & WeHo clientele. Clean, safe atmosphere. Walkable from bus stop. Semi convenient street parking.

  5. Best yoga studio I’ve been to!! Great classes with a focus on meditation/mindfulness which has been super helpful for my mental health as well as physical! I’ve taken classes from Sabrina, Garth, Elias, Yuki, & Michelle and thought they were all wonderful. Studio is always very clean and perfect temperature.
