I have never written a review before but this was easily the worst experience I have ever had anywhere. DO NOT GO HERE.
Last week I booked a private room for the night and arrived to check in, the man behind the desk told me he required a $220 deposit for the room (the website at the time said 150). While I had the money the only way he would accept it was through a physical card or cash not apple pay (this was not stated anywhere). I had had my card stolen a week earlier and did not have any cash on me (I had already paid for the room but he required an additional deposit). On learning that I didnāt have the ability to pay with a physical card or cash, instead of trying to find a solution with me (i.e. bank transfer) he got upset, wouldnāt allow me to talk to him and CALLED THE POLICE ON ME because he told me that guests are not allowed access to the lobby although I had paid for the room I was not welcome. He smiled at me while telling me that the room was non-refundable and sent me out with all my luggage into koreatown at 7:30pm. Luckily I had a friend in town that could withdraw the money for me and I was accepted back when I returned.
The rooms themselves were dank and smelt of mould/humidity the carpets were stained and the edges of every door had bulged out due to the moisture. Finally I was woken by the sound of construction and footsteps on my roof (I was on the top floor) at 7:45am.
I cannot express how horrible this experience was if you are thinking of coming here DO NOT GO!
I only chose this hotel because the location. I couldnāt change my reservation due to their ridiculous no refund policy and charge of my parking was not informed before I book. There are plenty of issue and inconvenient items in my room. Not much amenities are offered so basically nothing to write home about. I would really reconsider if you want to stay here
This hotel exceeded my expectations!. From some previous reviews, I worried it might be a little run down or not that clean. Iām in my early sixties, so really didnāt want to be anywhere funky. I was pleasantly surprised to find that both the rooms and the common areas are extremely clean and the staff is very available, friendly, and helpful. My room was large, sunny, and comfortable, with a good lay out. I donāt love K-town but the block of the hotel is somewhat cleaner and calmer than most other parts of the neighborhood. The price is very fair for a hotel in a major coastal city. I will definitely return.
As a jaded New Yorker and being a bit pedantic about my accommodations this was perhaps one of the most pleasant stays Iāve had in Los Angeles. Yasmin, Rick, Ash, and Luis were consistently available kind and efficient. I highly recommend the Shelter Hotel for anyone who needs to be centered in LA and be in an appropriate neighborhood
We arrived and the lobby looked nice but that was about it. We went into our first room and there was a massive cockroach on the fire sprinkler. We didnāt check the rest of the room. We asked for a refund because where there is one then there are more. The one person running the hotel said he could only change the room. We checked the next room and there were more bugs under the bed and we could hear every car passing by. We checked out and went to a different hotel near by within 20 mins of checking in. They also did not refund the $20 parking fee or the $20 hotel service fee. I had gotten a picture of the insect as proof. Also, i wouldnāt recommend walking around the hotel at night.
