Went in to accompany my husband for his back injury. Dr. Lu is extremely friendly, patient, knowledgeable and very good at explaining to both me and my husband about what had happened to him to cause his injury, and what the possible treatment would be in the future. He doesn’t BS and tells you exactly as is. Doesn’t push you to get any treatment if he thinks it wouldn’t help you much, he’ll straight up tell you.
As to the wait time that everyone is talking about, we did not experience it. Our appointment was 930, we got there at 910 and was done consulting with Dr. Lu by 1010am, and it wasn’t a short visit either.
Overall, I highly recommend Dr. Lu.
I had total knee replacement in Aug 31,2018 done by Dr Allen Lu. I thought I was in good hands I was so wrong. The post op seemed to be going well as I was able to do things again till 6 months later I stood up and my knee was giving and I was in pain. I made a few visits to Dr Lu and all I ever got was him telling me my knee was fine. He never did any x rays to address my concerns. I finally thought I would live like this for the rest of my life. Fast forward to present I too a chance with another orthopedic and he x rayed my knee and it confirmed my issue the replacement was loose and pieces of tiny metal around the knee! I do not recommend Dr Lu
My boyfriend had hernia surgery there this morning. It is a workers comp case because the injury happened at work. He had to wait months to get the appointment, and we live 2 hours away but had no choice because it was a workers comp case, and his employer uses Comcentra, who must contract to this office.
They were on time, but we had to be there really early, at 6 am. This meant we had to get a hotel on our dime. (We are supposed to be reimbursed for mileage, but I’ll believe it when it happens). The surgery went fine but the after care is deficient.
The main issue we are having, and are continuing to have as I write this, is that we can not get his prescription. First, the original pharmacy was closed (on a Thursday!), so we had to contact the doctor , Dr. Lee, to resend it, but he was almost impossible to find because of course he doesn’t have an office there and seems like a traveling doctor. He finally spoke with him and he assured us he would “call it in” (I wish they would stop saying it that way, because it implies that communication between humans has occured, when in fact it is something they do on-line without any follow-up to see if it actually occurred). Well, surprise surprise, he did not do it, and was then in surgery again so that we couldn’t reach him to ask why it hadn’t happened.
Then, when a script was finally sent it was for different medications of his, that had nothing to do with post-surgical pain. So, we had to call and call his case worker, the clinic, the insurance, the doctor, and the pharmacy several times all afternoon to fix this.
Patients should not have to work this hard, it feels like we are doing their work for them.
Appoint was at 2:45, got here at 2:40 PM, it is now 4 PM and I have yet to be seen. All the other reviews are accurate regarding wait time. You will wait a VERY long time just to be evaluated. Can’t comment on bedside manner and doctor yet, haven’t seen him.
I’ve been waiting until after my surgery to rate Dr. Lu and how I was feeling post surgery. I was originally going to another doctor who was so booked that he referred me to Dr. Lu. I can honestly say that I’m very happy he was booked and that I was able to have him do my surgery.
I have had 3 previous knee surgeries and was getting diagnosed with another torn ACL and meniscus so I’ve been through this dance before. I’ve dealt with enough orthopedic surgeons who think they are Gods in the medical field and Dr. Lu is the complete opposite of that. His bedside manner is the best I’ve ever experienced! He’s very thorough and explains everything while still listening to my concerns and making sure I was comfortable moving forward. He used a newer procedure on me where they drill from the inside of the joint instead of using plugs for the graft. I’m 9 days removed from surgery and almost have my full range of motion back.
I was really concerned with the amount of morphine that is used on me to put me under because I get really sick. The anesthesiologist (Dr. Chang) said he doesn’t use morphine and Dr. Lu made sure he used a blocker on me so I woke up feeling the best I’ve ever felt after any of my previous surgeries! I will update this post if anything changes but this truly has been the best experience I’ve ever had with an orthopedic surgeon and I would refer Dr. Lu, his staff and this surgical center to anybody that asks!
