  1. Some Ralph’s temp security guard, who is a very obvious tiny wannabe cop with an authority issue, grabbed me, then came at me yelling all aggressively because I had my headphones on and hadn’t heard his personal “Bag Check” rule!? I asked him to repeat himself because this was my first time hearing of this rule and I hadn’t heard him clearly. For some reason this set him OFF. Why did he even want to check my bag ENTERING the store in the first place? To go through MY items!?

Shopped here at least 50 times and this was the first I’d ever heard of this rule. Asked the security if he was a cop or something and he wouldn’t answer LMFAO, which says everything about this guy and what his issue is. Talked to a Ralph’s employee standing outside, and this REALLY enraged the wanna be cop for trying to supercede his “authority”. The employee I asked was a bearded rotund man and was absolutely useless.

Called management and, luckily, a manager I’m familiar with with was on duty (pretty sure his name is Joel) and he’s a really cool guy who knows me, and that this is my local grocery store. He’s seen me buy my usual fare here all the time. We talked for a bit and he made me aware that this is a new thing from some temp security agency they’re trying out, and that that little temp security guy has a real anger problem and escalated things for no reason.

I will never shop at ANY Ralph’s or Kroger establishment, if that kind of failed cop, who will abuse any modicum of authority, is who they hire for security. And I will make sure the same goes for all my family and friends.

He was very angry, aggressive, and has obvious issues with his perceived “authority”. It’s only a matter of time before this happens again with this guy, or worse.

He took pictures of me, gestured at me and even came up to me on the public sidewalk to say I had to leave because I was “harassing” while on the phone with corporate. Take me to court pal, let’s see how that stands up.

The only reason I’m ever coming back to this store is because the manager was such a reasonable and understanding guy, and to make absolutely sure that ridiculous little temp security man never works there again.

The usual security officer (who is an actual police officer) is a very reasonable, knowledgeable, and understanding guy.

But they have to figure something out quick with this particular temp security guy, be very careful until they get rid of him.

Update: I have still have not heard the promised call or email follow up from corporate. They told me they would update me and I gave them all of my contact info. It looks like I’m going to have to keep following this up myself, so don’t expect anything to change or to kept informed unless you keep inquiring.

  2. I ordered groceries for pick up bc I have a disability. The store called me at 719p to remind me to pick up the groceries. I told them thank you and I’d arrive in 10-15 mins, which I did. They said someone would be available to bring them to my car.

When I arrived I used the app to check in and enter my parking spot number. I did and waited. When no one came out I checked in again and stated my parking spot number again. Then I waited more and called the store several times. No one answered the phone after several calls.

Then I called the main 800 number and also used the chat bot to ask for help. The chat bot did not help. But the representative on the phone tried calling the store as well and reported back to me that no one was answering. This process took one hour. Finally the phone rep told me to go inside which was not easy and why I ordered ahead for the bags to be brought to my vehicle.

When I entered the store, I asked for help and the employee asked me to stand just the front and wait for the person to help me. I waited ten more minutes unclear about what was happening so I asked again how I could get help. The employee then called security to come over and watch over me with their loaded weapon. This was incredibly traumatizing. Other than being a black male there is absolutely nothing scary or threatening about me that would even remotely warrant armed supervision.

The other employee who ended up helping me told me I didn’t call and the phone didnt ring and blamed me. I didn’t need to explain a private ADA matter in public especially as I was keenly aware of an armed agent hovering over me. I let her know I would wait at my car for the groceries. The security officer followed me out to my vehicle and hovered outside my vehicle like I was a convicted felon.

Once the employee brought my groceries out, she THREW them in my trunk and refused to let me know where the eggs where until she was already thrusting them into my trunk. The armed guard watching over the whole time.

There is zero reason why a customer following all the rules should have to wait one hour for their groceries, for none of the paths to resolution to contact the store work. And then be treated so traumatically when entering a store like any other normal customer. I didn’t yell or curse or threaten or make any actions that would be perceived as warranting armed protection for the store or employee. I beg anyone involved to consider whether a small white woman would have received the same awful traumatizing treatment.

  3. I find a reason to visit Ralph’s almost daily to get the freshest produce for my raw dietary needs. Ralph’s rarely disappoints unless they’re just out of a particular item I need. I just leave and visit the next closest Ralph’s location.

  4. Love Ralph’s as a whole . However there are some employee (1) in particular. All of my 50+ years of shopping anywhere in the world have I received a nasty display of customer service. Until stopping by this location. Coming from a retail business background. I pride myself on customer service . Recieving several Customer Service Accommodations. The is lots of room for improvement . Myself included .

  5. Cashier with snoopy on his name tag was rude and wouldn’t sell me a bottle of wine with my expired ID and the temp from the DMV. I can literally get through TSA and board a flight with a temporary ID but can’t get a bottle of Stella Rosa from Ralph’s.
