  1. We decided to take an overnight trip to California from Arizona. I am always very particular about the hotels I stay in so there are a few hotels that we look for when planning a trip. The lobby is very nice, clean, and inviting. My daughter, son’s girlfriend and myself stayed in room 801 and the room was clean enough. However, so much in our room was broken. The bathroom door wouldn’t lock, the sink counter was detached on the left side from the wall, our door had to be forcefully opened and closed because it got stuck, and the outlets wouldn’t hold our chargers in place – – they just fell right out of the socket. My son’s girlfriend went to sit in the chair and read when I went to sleep and tried to use the lamp next to the chair, but the lamp didn’t work. So she went to use the lamp on the headboard, and it also didn’t work. She didn’t want to have the lamp between us on, so she just went to bed. But the room was so sticky and warm because we apparently had a swamp cooler in our room and the unit ran and dripped all night long, keeping me up the majority of the night.

For the price we paid for the two rooms, you would have thought we would have had a better experience. We are planning a trip back at the end of August and decided that we would stay in a different hotel. There is no way I would pay that money again for this experience.

  2. Not worth the money. No free parking even though parking structure is mostly empty. Front desk dressed unprofessionally, didn’t feel welcomed. Second day here no towels, only realized after shower. Room is fine, nothing is broken. However, furniture are all quite old and there is smell of sweat coming from the room somewhere. Stay here if you want a below average experience.

  3. I had a great stay at the Hilton San Diego Mission Valley. I arrived around 10:30 at night after a cross-country flight quite tired. The evening desk attendant (I believe her name was Erika) was efficient and very friendly checking me in. I requested a two o’clock late check-out the next day and she granted it cheerfully.

The room was a good size and the beds (both the king bed and the sofa bed) were comfortable. The water pressure in the shower was good and the air conditioning worked well. The only issue with the room was that power to one of the nightstands seemed to be off as its light and power outlet didn’t work.

The breakfast buffet ($25) was tasty with a good variety of hot and cold options (fruits, eggs, meats, sweets, etc.) and the service was excellent, with my waiter swinging by several times to check on me and offer coffee refills. And I was pleasantly surprised to discover that the $30 Hilton Gold/Diamond food and beverage credit was accurately applied to my folio at checkout.

The fitness center was pretty good, with a decent selection of dumbbells, weight machines and cardio equipment, including a Peloton bike.

Miguel at check out was friendly and efficient.

All in all, this was a great one-night stay and I wouldn’t hesitate to book this hotel again the next time I need a room in San Diego.

  4. The hotel was very nice, rooms were clean, bed was comfortable, everything in working order and didn’t look or smell dated. The pool is very small and I didn’t end up going just because another smaller group was there but taking up the whole thing. I did eat at the restaurant and got the Turkey Club sandwich which was delicious. However, it is quite pricey for a turkey club. It is within walking distance to the Target and quite a few shops and food stops. Don’t come here for a view as there is nothing special about the area.

  5. Night time front desk staff were very nice when we checked in around 11pm, the lobby was clean. The restaurants & bar close at 11pm even on the weekends. The 2nd night we sat in the spa in the evening, only 3 jets were working & was a little cloudy. The next night the spa was completely green (no chlorine) plus there were no towel available even if we would have gotten into the green spa. The soap dispenser in the room was completely empty when we checked in, housekeeping never checked or filled the soap guess you are required to leave housekeeping a note when the guest notices it is empty as it is not automatically checked & refilled after check out service is performed. Key card would not open the door for garage access into the hotel & we could never get anyone on the intercom so had to walk around. The night clerk told us parking would be $25 not the $37 listed for gold we were charged the $37. The room noise was extremely loud could hear everyone up & down the hall all night long, along with the footsteps above us, dripping noise during from the A/C unit & slamming of doors. Mentioned it when we checked out the lady at the front could care less. Her comment was we will have someone looked into the spa & oh ya we have been having issues with the garage access door it happens all the time. Would not recommend staying here, I will never stay here again especially for the price would have been better off staying 15 minutes away from where we wanted to be, as we chose it for the location to the person we were visiting. Guess being a gold member doesn’t mean what it used to.
