Grocery Outlet ā€“ Grocery in California

Grocery Outlet is a coalition of private-label discount retail stores that operate on a franchise model throughout the United States. It allows individual store owners to purchase brand-name consumer products at significant discounts, which they can then sell at marked-down prices. The retail strategy is built around offering a wide variety of quality merchandise from well-known brands across multiple departments, such as grocery, electronics, apparel, and beauty products, aiming to provide value-for-money to consumers. This business model enables smaller shop owners to enter a competitive market with lower overhead costs. The stores focus on a cost-effective operation by offering substantial layoffs, stocking on-sale merchandise frequently, and managing inventories efficiently to stay profitable and sustain customer interest with attractive pricing.

  1. They almost always have an amazing deal on something. This is often my first stop for snacks and many other items.
With this type of store you just have to remember that all products arenā€™t carried all of the time, but many are. The photos of the deals I posted likely wonā€™t last long but there will inevitably be others.

  2. I shop there first! I usually buy the Seasoned Fishes because itā€™s reasonable, delicious, and healthy. Then I go to the meats; I wonā€™t buy chicken breast from anywhere else because they all have some slime on them but G.O. chicken is shiny and clear. Their produce is on par with WinCo, maybe not as much but a good selection. SNACKS! I stick to nuts, legumes, and other snacks that arenā€™t made of wheat or potatoes. They have walnuts, pistachios, cashews; the first time I bought them there I was so overcome that I turned to the shopper on my left and said ā€œLook at these nuts!ā€ They have a BIG selection of supplements, personal care items, pans and plates and paper and plastic. Want kitchen gadgets? THEY HAVE THEM!
The reader should bear in mind that because their business model is built on buying large closeout lots, which means there arenā€™t many regular item suppliers. Thatā€™s why I go there first; to get 6 bags of groceries for less than $200. If I need anything specific that G.O. doesnā€™t carry, then Iā€™ll trundle over to Big Blue.
Iā€™ve actually expanded my cooking skills since I started shopping there regularly, cuz I find things that catch my eye (curried chicken, anyone?) or are too cheap to pass up. I donā€™t drink, but if I did Iā€™d be in heaven, or rehab, because their beer and wine selection is also outstanding.
Grocery Outlet is a company dedicated to helping their customers fight inflationary pricing while keeping their families healthy, with full tummies.
    SHOP THERE NOW, YOU FOOLS!!!šŸ˜˜

  3. If you like small grocery stores this is the place to go. The produce department is small and everything is priced as each, nothing is weighed. There are many items and brands I have never seen at other grocery stores and that makes this place unique. You really have to shop around though, not all prices are cheaper than other stores. Most of the real inexpensive items are close to expiration dates so watch out. The day I went they had name brand cereal value pack for $0.99 but it was going to expire in a month. And if you are a wine drinker you will have an abundance of choices with varying prices.

    Update: 4/20/2022
Still my favorite place to shop though they have a smaller selection than traditional and warehouse style of supermarkets. And of course inflation is no stranger to this store as I have seen prices go up within the past 4-6 weeks but they seem to have stabilized somewhat just like gasoline prices.

    Update: 7/29/2022
Even though Juneā€™s CPI was at 9.1% prices here are still stable, at least for the products I purchase. My main staples in this store are water, produce and meats with the occasional snacks in the mix. I noticed some items came down in price slightly which eases the burden on the wallet. One thing I do notice is a lot of turnover at this store, which could be pay or the hours afforded the workers. The reason I mention this is because it is always nice to see a familiar face at the checkstand or the sales floor when help is needed.

    Update: January 2023
The owners have been updating this location for a few months and it seems like a totally new store. I still consider this my main grocery store due to the prices and location. Though I do have to go to other stores for some items most of my food needs are satisfied here. I am still amazed they have unique items, grocery or otherwise, they are able to get that often beats the prices of Amazon, Wal-Mart and Target.

    Update Sept. 2023:
I still come here but recently not as often. The reason, though I like this store, the limited selection has gotten to me. I feel like driving at less after I get done shopping here and do not wish to travel to another grocer to complete my shopping list. Another two reasons come to my mind, too. I still get the occasional cashier that does not greet me. How do I know it is only me? I pay attention when in the checkout to see if they greet the customer ahead me and the one behind as I am leaving. And I always hear a greeting to both but no me. Why? You would have to ask the person working behind the register. Reason 2. They are still raising their prices, and considerably on the the items that I purchase. I buy Foster Farms ground turkey and they have had it priced at $3.99 for a 16 oz. package for the longest time, even during the past year of rising inflation. The last time I was there it changed to $5.99 per package. Was this a temporary or permanent change who knows, Iā€™ll see the next time I am there. That is a 50.13% increase. Someone please correct me if I did the calculation incorrectly. I am a brand loyal person but if these reasons continue you will lose a customer. I have worked in the service industry in the past and I know they donā€™t really care because I will just be replaced by a new customer that discovers Grocery Outlet.

  4. First time Iā€™ve been to a grocery outlet in years and I had low expectations.. but I had a pleasant visit. Last time I went to a grocery outlet, everything was way past expired and spoiled. This store had products near its expiration date but products looked (and I learned once I got home, tasted) fine. Their produce also didnā€™t see too shabby. I bought a pack of ground turkey but was a little nervous to buy any other type of meat.. The store is also pretty small and there doesnā€™t seem to be much option.. But for price on some the items, I was pleased. I wouldnā€™t make this store my primary grocery store since thereā€™s not much option, but there are a few new brands that peaked my interest. Iā€™ll be back!

  5. Love the great variety of items at this location. Friendly and knowledgeable staff. Good prices, vegetables, fruits, frozen foods, different types of beers, wines and so much foods, beverages, cleaning supplies and so more. Some items change out for making this store awesome. Clean store, parking lot and section for disabled.
