  1. Was taken here to celebrate my birthday but unfortunately I forgot to get pics during our time inside restaurant. But we PLENTY leftover and the pics shown in this review are from my midnight crawl munchies @ home with candlelight. Canā€™t get more ā€œexoticā€ than that!! I had the Chicken Makhni(aka ā€œButter Chickenā€ and the curry sauce and roasted meat were SOOOOOOO well seasoned that no salt was needed. My guest had Lentil Daal as she is vegetarian but had a lot of veg-friendly selections from the menu.
The garlic-cilantro buttered Naan bread was so fresh, soft and a good accompaniment for dipping in the spice-rich Makhni sauce! The only reason it didnā€™t earn a perfect 5-star for me was chaotic service in the beginning and our waiter was new and not even Indian/Asian and couldnā€™t offer basic explanations for menu choices. In his defense he did go back to get the manager to help us with a greater expert detailing of our various interested menu items. But on the other hand I think if you work somewhere you should have a basic, rudimentary knowledge of the dishes offered on the menu and their components/ingredients . Service needs improvement but the staff is eager to assist. But just solely based on the food itself, the food rating DEFINITELY earns PERFECT 5-āon itā€™s own!! Definitely coming back to sample other menu items. It šŸ’Æ Percent gets my recommendation for lovers of Indian, Caribbean or Asian cuisine in general ! Enjoy!

  2. DO NOT EAT HERE:
Overview- Server doesnā€™t keep tips, owner is a penny pincher, rat infestation and overall a gross place, food not what it used to be.

Employees (even servers) arenā€™t allowed to keep any tips; they all go directly to the owner. The owner tries to hide this fact, but donā€™t be fooled, they all make minimum wage, and no one gets a raise regardless of how well they work.

If you have any issues regarding the food or service, itā€™s because the owner will cut ANY possible corner to save his money. The food is overpriced, and itā€™s likely to send you to the toilet later. He cut back on the portions of the food, for example, the sizes of the mango lassi and chutney sauces. He even changed the carry out boxes to cheaper ones and they wonā€™t shut all the way and end up spilling. Raj refuses to put people on shift to save money, causing a serious staffing shortage. They only have ONE server, regardless of whether or not itā€™s a full house or not. (Sometimes the owner will help but heā€™ll do the bare minimum). A lot of the time, the server is expected to handle the roles of the hostess and busser simultaneously, and if mistakes are made they get punished. Employees have also been threatened with paycheck deductions for there mistakes.

The cleanliness of the place is questionable. There has been a rat infestation. They pulled 5 dead rats from the to-go area, including 2 of them from the paper shredder. And letā€™s be honest, the place is disgusting and in serious need of renovations. I talked to the health inspector when he was there, and apparently they just barely pass every time .

I know I donā€™t want to eat at a place that has stuff floating in the water, dirty plates, reused table clothes, etc. The food quality has gone down tremendously, and is is both bland and salty.

No disrespect to this place, itā€™s just a shame to see an amazing place thatā€™s been around forever, turn into some second-rate restaurant because of one person. Anyways, youā€™ll probably go here once and never return to. Save yourself the trip and dine somewhere else.

  3. My husband and I are from Kansas, and when we found ourselves in the DC area for a conference and unable to get into our Air BnB, we decided to kill some time at the local Indian restaurant. Weā€™ve probably been to 20+ Indian places, and Bollywood was one of the best!

First off, being reluctantly gluten-free and vegetarian by choice is always a challenge, but the amount of vegetable and paneer choices was astounding! The menu itself is also largely gluten free! I was so pleasantly surprised to find a gluten free naan, for the first time ever! I paired the gluten free naan with the Paneer Kashmiri (and upon visiting a second time, the Malai Kofta); both were absolutely delicious. Creamy, flavorful sauces with just the right amount of spice. My husband got the Salmon Kadhai twice, and thought it was one of the best dishes heā€™d ever had!

Do yourself a favor and order a pot of Masala Chai, as well. The flavors reminded me a bit of pumpkin spice, and it was some of the best chai Iā€™ve tasted.

Hats off to Bollywood Masala for an amazing array of foods!
