  1. Beautiful studio room but building is old. It’s very bare minimum as far as amenities. The shower is so tiny and the front lip of the shower tile fell off and was obviously needing fixed. When we needed more towels they were quick to respond. Beautiful windows on 3 sides but very bright with no blackout shades (which they do state that upfront) Pricey for what you get.

  2. My family and I had just stayed at the Hillcrest and I must say it was such a quaint peaceful stay. I must admit, the reviews I read at the time of booking made me nervous, but I did not have the same experience as the others by far.
We booked a room last minute with the intent to stay one more extra day to enjoy our time. The booking was easy and the staff was incredibly friendly and understanding. my card was declined for the deposit fee (the bank thought because of traveling, it was fraud and put a hold in the card) they held the room until resolved. We got the pleasure of staying in the room with a balcony livingroom and it was amazing. I do want to give a little warning for future travelers….this hotel is for very close family or even closer than close friends, but so worth the stay! ♥️

  3. While everything appeared to be clean, it did appear a bit dated. Our sink faucet pretty much fell apart. The layout is very cute and trendy but dang is it inconvenient. Very hard to do anything but sleep and shower. We really tried to like it but having to crawl around to get to bed and pretty much having to wake my wife up every time I had to go to the bathroom got old quick. The staff was friendly and very attentive. Internet was slow. Don’t recommend if you need to do work online.

  4. I had been wanting to check this place out for a while and I wasn’t disappointed. When I arrived the manager of the hotel came out to meet me at the locked front gate that was secure and built well. When I walked in there was a partly open roof court yard that held tables and chairs and featured a gift shop and a delicatessen and cafe. Parking was $50 per night for two vehicles to be paid in cash. A little expensive for being so far from downtown where it’s 80 in some places. But it was worth it because the area has a lot of transients and road traffic which can be unnerving when unloading your bags and trying to get into relax mode. it’s definitely not the area of San Diego I prefer, I’m more of a beach bum but there are a lot of great experiences to be had in every part of San Diego, the Abpopa was one such case. I had the corner suite that gave a great view of the city and the street traffic below which made for excellent people watching. And vice versa because the building stands out because of its size and unique architecture. I almost felt like I was a live art exhibit framed in the display with eye-catching glass, concrete and steel . But if you get stage freight there are privacy shades that roll down with ease and the show becomes very private and a true vip experience. This is the type of place that makes it so you don’t want to leave because your so relaxed and the contrast to the scene in the street just makes you feel that much appreciative that there is such a wonderful place to enjoy , a true diamond in the rough . I will return to explore the other rooms and get more French toast! The manager goes above and beyond for his guests and gives it that personal privacy ouch that makes it feel like you’re visiting a close friend or relatives. Definitely not the cookie cutter chicken coop franchises that plague the city. a unique experience worth every penny .

  5. Abpopa is hands down my new favorite spot to stay. Each room is super unique and the staff is incredible and kind even when they are swamped and stressed. They treat you like you are their favorite guest. The location is ideal as well, a walking distance to everything in Hillcrest! It’s very comfortable and relaxing. You feel like you are in your own new home it has a very homelike vibe!. I’d recommend it’s one of the best finds in San Diego
