1. I love this place! Not only can you book a private room, which is a good size, the hostel is steps from the beach!
   There is a communal area to sit, a kitchen you can cook in, breakfast is included – you just need to prepare yourself!
   In the private room is a fridge and your own bathroom.
   There are loads of shops and places to drink downstairs and a short walk away, plus a supermarket, pharmacy and a few other large places to get everything you need.
   I will definitely be staying here again

2. Amazing location, just a two minute walk from the beach. Right upstairs from a strip of good bars and restaurants. The place was very clean and the amenities were good. Staff were very welcoming and friendly! Bruno is terrific and a great host! I would love to return one day to look at the sunset again!

3. Reception was SO accommodating when my plans changed, so long as I called ahead of time and was communicative. Very friendly and calming staff. The bathrooms are also some of the best I’ve seen in a hostel (this can always be a toss-up, you never know). Big plus that the dorms have their own. They also supply free ear plugs due to their location on a busy strip (awesome location on the beach). I’d gladly come here again. It’s the epitome of a chill SoCal hostel that you’d come to expect 🙂

4. I am a proud hosteller for over 20 years throughout Asia, Europe, Oceania and North America. My stay at Surf City Hostel in Hermosa Beach started very well. Friendly staff and visitors, great accommodations and location. Suddenly on the third day of my stay, after I was already having a troubled morning as something flew in my left eye and wouldn’t come out, I was told by the front desk staff that it ‘wasn’t working out’ and they were refunding me the rest of my 12 day stay. I was refused a reason for why I was being thrown out of the hostel. I am now without a place to stay on a Friday night in L.A and the pest in my eye is still here. I am a former hostel and hotel manager and trainer at a 5 star hotel. I certainly know how to conduct myself; I even helped the staff put away kitchen dishes last night. I am shocked, saddened, terribly worried and upset over what transpired today. Please do yourself a favour and DO NOT STAY at this hostel. If I can get thrown out for no reason – anyone can. Not too many great options in L.A. since the close of USA hostels but HI in Santa Monica is always a safe choice with a great organization. I am a former hostel manager for HI Canada. Shame on you, Surf City. I have still been overcharged by $17.85 USD even with the refund – which given the circumstances should have been for the entire stay and the overcharge. The worst part is the feeling of absolute rejection on a personal level. Like I was too old or unpopular to stay…Since I didn’t have a cross word with anyone or single conflict – in fact quite the opposite as I made friends – it feels entirely personal.

5. super friendly staff, amazing place, very well located, close to the airport and all the bars in Hermosa Beach. best sunsets, amazing view from the hostel. I really recommend it 🫶
