  1. Had a blast this morning working out first time downtown. The gentleman that checked me in was wonderful and the entire experience was great. So much variety of weight machines on different floors. My only complaint is the parking validation is only 90 minutes and I really wanted to workout a little more than an hour so I felt myself rushing at the end..

  2. Where is everybody? Is Jim is beautiful and I love the rooftop basketball court. I wouldn’t say it’s competitive, the floor is made up of these tiles that does not exactly simulate a realistic basketball court. Still enjoyed it, though. Playing basketball with a view is very hard to find. The white room was super clean, and well organized.
I believe they have complementary towels you can use while you’re here, and I thought the locker rooms and bathrooms were very nice and clean.

  3. Very clean, relaxing , quiet. When I visit down town In Shape location, I feel like I’m at a personal upscale gym. Complete workout focus. All the equipment is very well kept. It all feels brand new.

  4. Update 09/2024: I hate to update this review and take it from five stars to zero. But unfortunately, when In Shape Fitness merged with California Family Fitness they completely ruined everything about Cal Fit that I enjoyed. You can no longer speak to a human at any corporate office to resolve any issue that you may have with your membership or each particular gym location. There is no one to speak to to resolve anything. I have been hospitalized for months, and while disabled temporarily I have not been able to reach anyone in any capacity who could tell me why every single morning my credit card was attempting to be charged by ISFF for $70. The freeze hold price is less than $10! Even now after paying that ridiculous fee for no reason, now they say I owe them another $10 fee and they cannot tell me what that is for! And should I remove the hold in order to cancel, after 2 years, they’ll charge me a prorated $50 fee, and then another week of prorated fees. Just to immediately cancel! When I am too sick to work out in any capacity! Calling any location to see if someone in the gym can help is also futile as they don’t know anything and can’t contact corporate either. I hate to quit this gym because as an overweight person I value being able to move my body and be healthy, but this is ridiculous. Maybe I’ll just join the YMCA that’s opening where the Capital Athletic Club used to be. Because the way that they’ve changed Cal Fit? Is trash.

Cal Fit on K St is great- for a lot of reasons, not least of which is that they reopened to help keep K street alive after the pandemic shut everything down & many businesses just never returned. Thank you for thinking of downtown locals & not just commuting employees!! Clean, spacious, full of newer machines, never too crowded (granted, this is partly because so many state employees are still WFH remotely), great locker room with steam & dry sauna, plenty of lockers w/locks, towel service (thank God!), friendly employees who go out of their way to welcome you- i am newly disabled, and overweight and I get nothing but love here which is def not a given at fitness centers! I love all the choices for working out in semi-private spaces depending on the floor. Basketball court on the roof, members lounge w/flat screens and, amusingly, a wet bar. If Downtown Cal Fit had a pool up on that roof or in the basement it would be even more perfect, but as it is, it blows Midtown Cal Fit outta the water on cleanliness & spaciousness alone. Please reopen the smoothie bar soon, and consider extending your weekend hours to include Sundays- you’ve got plenty of Mansion Flats & Alkali Flat locals who would love to work out on weekends, & with the new high rise residences coming up along the J St & 16th St corridors, a local gym open late 7 days is a huge deal. P.s. if another space opens for lease in that block of K for a reasonable rent and you can retrofit it to include an indoor pool? PLEASE do so- I’d be happy to walk close by for pool privileges & I know others would too!

  5. i would like to state i don’t usually leave bad reviews but unfortunately this seems to be my only outlet. i will say i loved this gym and it was great until i went to move out of state and cancel my membership.. i planned on moving at the end of march and cancelled my membership in january for the month of february. i talked to the guy at the front and he assured me i was all good and everything i even double checked a few weeks later just to be sure and he assured me that yes i was all good.. so imagine my surprise when i see charges for feb, march, and april on my credit card statement.. well i try and reach out and talk to someone and i was asked if i had proof that i moved. i said well i have my penske truck rental receipt so i send it in an email to the manager and never hear back.. surprise right? so i do get a confirmation that my membership is cancelled. finally and i was waiting for a refund of some kind for the two months i wasnt there so imagine my surprise when i look at my statement and have been charged another 31$ dollars which brings the total up to 270$.. so i call the location to ask and he says since it was cancelled in the middle of the month they pro rated it. so much for my refund or even a reply or message back. i usually only support local non corporate business and this is just another reason why.. inept employees with poor training and corporate red tape that make it impossible to get refunded. do yourself a favor and find a gym that owned by someone local or is not corporate.. corporations do not care about their employees or the customers but about getting that last 31.42 cents 👊🏻
