  1. Went to this store today for the first time since it was on my way to Safeway and I wanted to see if there were any good deals before I spent and arm and a leg at Safeway. However, I instantly regretting coming to this store and should have honestly backed out before I continued on through the store.

Most of the store associates are rude and don’t greet/speak customers. The store is not organized in a manner that makes it seamless to shop there and a lot of the store just seemed like housekeeping was their last concern.

But to keep it a buck, that wasn’t even the biggest issue. The biggest issue was dealing with their cashier Daya, who seemed to be better equipped at judging people than her actual job of customer service. Her attitude was contrite and cold and simply uninviting. The first thing she asked me was if I was using “EBT” an action she had not done to the several customers before me and not even to the man after me. I am going to guess that because I’m black she thought that question was more appropriate than saying hello first. I asked her if she asked everyone that first off and she lied and said yes when in real time, I watched her not do exactly that. Though there is nothing wrong with having snap, I can’t help but wonder why that was the only thing she felt the need to ask me.

Either way, I will never shop at store #206 because of their lovely customer service, plain and simple. I spent too much money for someone to make ignorant assumptions about me based on how they think I look.

Spend your money where you’re welcomed.

  2. I am a lifelong Alameda resident, and a 32 year resident of this neighborhood, so please believe me when I say that this store embodies the funky, fun, slightly wacky spirit of old school Alameda. Think “1970s Alpha Beta Market” except with cool modern stuff. Fantastic deals on food, really nice employees, and lowkey hippie parent vibes while you shop. I actually look forward to bringing my two boys here, and I can honestly relax and just have fun finding food with them because I know we’ll be loading up on two weeks of stuff for $120 or less. Great meats and seafood. A stunning amount of fresh produce. 5 stars all around. Like a school field trip for moms and dads. I promise you will love this store as much as we do!
