I have lived in Mobile for 25+ years but stayed at the Battle House for the first time in July for a wedding. Everything about the stay was wonderful – the room was very nice, the hotel is absolutely beautiful with the architecture, and I cannot brag enough on the customer service I experienced. Every staff member we encountered during (and after) our stay was wonderful. I unfortunately lost my glasses while there, and everyone was so kind and helpful in trying to find them for me for the next few days after we left. While they weren’t able to find them, I am extremely impressed with the care, effort, and attention they gave to the matter. I even had the Director of Operations call me personally to let me know they were doing everything they could. It’s hard to find customer service like that nowadays! We will definitely be staying here again!!
Beautiful location and historic architecture. Rooms were clean and the amenities were nice. No breakfast included which is off putting due to how much you spend to stay here, but there are restaurants within walking distance. The service however is the reason I’m rating this place a 3/5 stars. The staff is as stuck up and snoody as the building itself. I tripped on the rug in the lobby and an older woman employee happened to be walking behind me, instead of being worried or concerned about me, her first instant reaction was “the rug!!”… she was more worried about the rug than me. I was fine, it was just a little stumble and not a big deal but her first reaction says it all.
I was looking forward to this hotel greatly. However when we arrived we found that instead of getting a decently sized room for ourselves and our 2 &4 year old. They had overbooked 2 queen bed rooms.
Their solution was to put us in a tiny king in the historic part of the hotel in a room less than half the original size and squeeze a roll away bed into the space.
As an apology we were compensated by being put in a club room that would access the lounge. Well that was a joke as it was closed when we arrived and wouldn’t open for breakfast until after we left. I even told the clerk that we were leaving at 6am. Half an hour before it opened.
Finally at 9pm I had to call down because we still didn’t have the rollaway and needed to get our young children down.
I will not be staying here again and don’t recommend it to anyone else.
This was my second favorite spa in the U.S. I’m sorry to say I’m not sure that I’ll return now that I’ve been treated in such a cool manner.
I called last week and asked to book 6 massages on a Sunday. I planned to stagger 3 women at 11am & 3 men at 1pm in hopes of having services performed & using the pool. I asked the staff if we may bring 2 infants to the pool as well as one 2 year-old (who I offered to buy a pool pass for). I was shocked when my request was denied by the spa manager, Beth. I cannot understand how purchasing $810 worth of services at the spa is less valuable than being a hotel guest. Additionally, we would have purchased refreshments while using the pool.
This is a beautifully designed hotel in the historic section of Mobile. I give this hotel 2 stars because in the historical section the hallways smell like urine. Not sure if it is animal or human since animals are welcomed. When I discreetly told the front desk of the horrific smell they informed me they on get their carpets cleaned every 4 months or so. Very alarming and think that is very unsanitary. House keeping does a great job cleaning the rooms and they have great personalities. Plenty of towels and supplies. The bedding is comfortable however it is filled with downs feather and so are the pillows so If you are hot natured you will not sleep well because the bedding holds heat. The room temperatures allow you to set it to 65 degrees, however the room does not get that cold. Rooms are not sound proof and you can hear tv and other noises from your neighbor. There are no microwaves in the rooms to heat up food. Wi-Fi is a hit or miss. The historic section needs immediate upgrades. Valet is amazing and a great resource to recommend alternative places to eat in the Mobile area. The Trellis Room food for breakfast lives up to the 4 star rating but I can not recommend dinner because they were not open Sunday nor Monday night. Joe Cain’s was also good food with friendly waitresses. For the price we spent each night on our rooms and the extreme odor smell of urine in the hall ways and the many animals located in the hotel, my family will not stay at this historic hotel again.
