  1. This place was definitely the fanciest I’ve stayed at for a while. It had an old classic feel to it. However, mayhaps a makeover might be needed. Overall, the room was nice and big. Bathroom was clean and had what I needed. Local Chinese place was delicious. Breakfast was standard and good. The price threw me off for a bit, but I wanted to try something different. Valet parking was nice and employees were friendly and helpful. Not a bad stay, but this one goes on the ”maybe” pile for another visit.

  2. I think I had high expectations when I got in the elevator and two hotel guests (a couple) asked me if it was my first time staying there (it was) and proceeded to say it would be an amazing stay.

Nevertheless, it was decent but certainly not mind-blowing. I understand this is a historical property, so it should come as no surprise that the rooms—specifically the bathrooms—are dated.

Also, I’m unsure if the hotel staff or a former guest left a box fan in the closet, but let me say that was truly the highlight of my stay. I like my living space to be quite cold (between 66-68 degrees) at night. The room was not cold enough for me, but when I discovered the box fan, that truly made all of the difference and enabled me to sleep very well at night.

The breakfast is the standard, basic breakfast at any Hampton property. It wasn’t anything to brag about, but it wasn’t bad either.

The location of this property is nice because you’re downtown Birmingham and can literally walk to one of the best Jamaican restaurants I’ve eaten at in the U.S.

Overall, I’d probably choose a property that has a modern bathroom, but this was not a bad stay at all. It just wasn’t necessarily a perfect fit for me.

  3. Shawn was great at the service desk on check-in. He went above & beyond. Devin, that valeted my car was great as well. In the morning, when I called for late checkout, the woman was not as friendly. You can tell when someone loves & appreciates their job versus trying to get through their shift. She was just trying to get through her shift & you could tell with her dry & short words. I will not fault the hotel for that. The experience at Sixteen was great. They went above & beyond as well. We really enjoyed our stay & room 523 is perfect! The views are great!

  4. We had a very pleasant stay here. Our 7th floor room was spacious and comfortable, and we had a pretty easy time parking about a block away on the street. Breakfast is somewhat standard issue, but fairly extensive (which is a great value add to the cost of lodging.) Coffee was pretty bad, but that’s not a deal breaker.

We also really enjoyed the parlor-style lobby, which made it easy to gather with our large group for two nights in a row.

There is a restaurant and bar in the lobby, but it closed pretty early in the evening (8-9pm.)

  5. I was in town because my father had a heart attack and I just needed a clean hotel near the hospital to sleep. My expectations were met and surpassed! The hotel is so clean and beautiful! Every staff member was kind. They were out of Coke and I mentioned to the manager how I had been craving a Coke. Next thing I know he came out with a can of Coke for me!
I can not wait to come back with my husband for a happy occasion!! This is now my favorite hotel of all time!!!
