Came in for a scheduled tour, and Michael took the time to thoroughly explain everything as well as show us the property. Top-notch guy.
Decided to move forward with a unit, and the process was straightforward and expedited for move-in within a day. You can tell that the management here are quality people; they do their best to accommodate inquiries and ensure residents have all the necessary information. Maintenance workers are on-site, and are prompt to answer any requests thus far.
Overall, I am pleased. Location is on the quiet side of the Gaslamp district, with assigned underground parking. Building is aesthetically pleasing and tastefully designed, with two access points other than the garage. Amenities are ample, with heated pools, conference room space, rooftop areas, and a small gym. So far so good!
These apartments are great. The common areas are useful and fun, the hallways are clean and the residents are respectful. They recently upgraded the elevator flooring, which looks great. They are conscious to keep the building modern and stylish. The pool is awesome and the entire building is quiet even though your are just 1 block from the gaslamp. The office staff are helpful and sends important memos about guest parking and amento closures when needed so you’re never caught of guard. There are community events regularly and nice perks as being a resident. Highly recommend.
My husband and I recently moved to San Diego in the middle of summer of 2023. We were helped by Michael who was so supportive, and guided us throughout the entire process with grace and knowledge. Michael was informative and we needed a place immediately after driving across country.
The unit that we desired was not available however, we took the 2nd best option.
We loved it immediately and if you are looking for a city type of feel next to The historic Gaslamp district” this is it.
Moving forward to April 2024, Michael informed us that the loft we originally wanted became available. We became instantly excited and wanted to see if we could be considered for a transfer. Michael, again was a super star and was detailed with everything we needed to do. The process was so easy and now we have the most beautiful view of the city and more space to host. We also love that if you have guests visiting, all you need to do is plan ahead and request a pass before your guests arrives and you are almost always guaranteed a spot for them. (Planning is key) as this is downtown.. and parking like any major city is hard. However, our guests have been treated wonderfully every time we host.
Thank you Michael for alway going above and beyond for us. As a military family we understand the importance of moving in a short period of time and we thank you for all your help with our demanding work schedules.

I’ve lived at 4th+J for the better part of a year and I can’t say enough good things about living here. The apartment and amenities are A+ and Michael and the entire Book and Ladder team are extremely attentive and great to work with. I especially love all of the community events and opportunities to meet people in the building! You really feel like part of a community here. My pup loves it too!! Happy to just have renewed for another year! 🙂
We really love this place! It’s in the middle of everything, the rooftop and amenities are incredible, and the best thing is the personnel. They go above and beyond to help. Especially MIKE. We stayed almost 2 years, and the only reason we moved was to be closer to work. We are going to miss the view of the marina 2 blocks away and our walks at Jacob’s Park and the Rady Shell concerts. If you want to enjoy downtown at its best and feel at home, this is the place to be.
